Career Assessment at

Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES Career and Technical Centers

2011-2012 School year

The career assessment process focuses on obtaining information about a student’s interests, aptitudes, abilities and behaviors, as a basis for career exploration and planning. This information is used to determine a specific career path, recommend training/education environments in which to explore careers and/or suggest strategies and adaptations which could enhance the career exploration and education process. The evaluation can include interest surveys, behavioral observation during career and technology education theory and shop instruction, as well as criterion-based and standardized work samples.

Career Assessments are administered at Finger Lakes Technical and Career Center located in Stanley, and at Wayne Technical and Career Center located in Williamson. Component school districts served by WFL BOCES can schedule Students from grades 8 to 12 in special education, alternative or general education programs to participate in a career assessment with no additional fee.

A referral form must be completed by the student’s teacher, school counselor or administrator, and approved by the district’s pupil personnel services office, or BOCES administrator, and forwarded to Evelyn Goodsell, Assessment Coordinator at FLTCC or WTCC. Be sure to include supportive documents requested on referral form. Career Assessment Referral Form

Following the career assessment, the  evaluator will provide a comprehensive report with specific recommendations that can be used in developing the student’s educational, transition and career plans.
